Our Technology
TF Instruments controls key patents on several methods for x-ray phase imaging. All of our techniques are based on commercially available x-ray components for near-term deployment in laboratory settings. The most promising uses a Hartmann-Shack Wavefront Sensor along with a high-output line-focus x-ray source.
TF Instruments' mammography scanner will have the ability to image soft tissue lesions directly, even with dense breast tissue.
TF Instruments is developing x-ray phase-imaging platforms for the medical research, clinical mammography, and industrial non-destructive testing markets. Our goal is to have the results of our medical scan lead to an automated evaluation of disease/health state. This is quite beyond “computer-aided diagnosis” and much more akin to machine vision, as the density of each tissue type scanned is directly measured and displayed.
TF Instruments will manufacture a low-cost x-ray lens array that when combined with analysis software will yield a quantified 3-D map of soft tissue density. This is a completely new type of computed tomography, measuring and presenting the tissue's refractive index and absorption.
